MP 2.63.2.3192 Qt 4.6.2 Win XP Pro

When I press Ctrl-T when in a message viewer, to get the display to change to show the entire raw content of the message, there's a significant pause before the display opens.

For example, a 6 second delay for a mail which has a small HTML attachment and a small word document, but the whole mail is only 46K. Or, for a 360 KB mail (with tiny plain text, about 20 lines of HTML, and the rest a base64-encoded PDF)... 68 seconds. Or even for a small entirely plain text mail, initial display is normally less than a second; pressing Ctrl-T it takes about 3 secs to prepare the next display... but there's only 24 lines of header at the start that's extra to what the first display showed.

I've noticed that opening a group is at least 10 times faster than it was in Gemini 2.29 (which is fantastic; I had some folders with several thousand mails in them that I hardly every opened before because it would take 20-30 seconds to do it, and now it's 2-3). (I just tried a folder with 6205 messages - now it opens in 3 seconds; its Index file is 485KB.) And I've also noticed that the delay in opening for simple display even a large single email (eg one that's > 1 MB) is also nearly instant... so it's hard to see why the source display takes so long.

In a normal message viewer, is View -> Message Source (Alt-Shift-H) the same thing as Message -> Edit Message (Ctrl-T)? It seems to be...

(0000173) mark (administrator) 15 Mar 10 10:33	This is very slow, unbearably so when viewing a message with attachments. View Source and Edit Message are the same, the difference being that the former is read only.

(0000176) mark (administrator) 19 Mar 10 17:50	Qt has a plain text editor as well as a rich text editor, the former being better optimised for large amounts of text. I think the way forward is to switch between the two when either View Source or Edit Message are selected.

(0000254) mark (administrator) 03 Jul 10 10:19	The choice of display widget was only part of the story as it turns out the message colouring/URL highlighting code was very inefficient. Both aspects should now be resolved in v2.65.1.
